Moody Hamilton Thornton passed away at the age of 31 in 1919. He is buried in Woodman Cemetery, east of town.
His Woodmen of the World headstone is a vertical slab which stands on two base stones, the top one engraved with his surname THORNTON. At the top of the pillar is one large horizontal log. On the face of the headstone is an engraving of the "gates of Heaven", with his inscription below:
