The City Of Norman Fire Station # 8 was the first fire station in Oklahoma to be LEEDS certified. It was certified Gold Level in Sept 2011 with a score of 42 of 69 possible points. Most of the criteria are not "visible", the two that can be photographed are the bicycle rack at the front of the building and the natural, drought-resistant landscaping. Other criteria that were met were: site selection, low emitting and fuel efficient vehicles, optimized energy performance, construction waste management, use of recycled materials, and regional materials usage.

The 10,239 sq ft building was designed by Kirkpatrick Architecture of Denton, Texas and built by Diversified Construction of Edmond, Oklahoma. The Norman Transcript had a good article on the fire station and it can be seen here

Certification Level: Gold
