This tank started development in 1957, it has been a stout and ready performer for the 50+ years it has been in operational service. Initial production began in 1959 out of the Chrysler Delaware Defense Plant with production changing to the Chrysler Detroit Tank Plant in Michigan in 18987. Some 15,000 units were manufactured. Primary armament is the M68 105mm main gun. Power was supplied by a single Continental AVDS-1790-2 V-12 air-cooled Twin-Turbo diesel engine fo 750 horsepower. This was mated to a General Motors cross-drive single-stage transmission with two forwards speeds and one reverse speed. The M60 tank saw combat service in Israeli Yom Kipper War in 1973 and in the Persian Gulf region during the Gulf War in 1991 (Operation Desert Storm) with elements of the United States Marine Corps.
