On the west end of the YMCA Townlake building at 1100 W. Cesar Chavez Street in Austin, TX, you can find a large compass rose in a circle bordered by large limestone blocks. It is outside and near, but behind, the main entrance doors.

This compass rose is in a circle of concrete that is stained a yellowish tan color, with the long pointers tapering into triangles that point to the four cardinal directions (N, E, S, W). These pointers are stained a light brown. Smaller triangles are angled in between the four long, major pointer which represent the "between" directions (NE, SE, SW, NW), although only the cardinal directions have designated letters shown in the concrete.
From the various parking lots available, one can arrive at this Compass Rose by walking toward the large all-glass exterior part of the YMCA Townlake building where the front door is found. From the lower parking lot near the baseball fields, public toilets, and walking trail below the level of the YMCA building, climb up the stone staircase to the level of the YMCA. But, instead of continuing to the front door, turn left on the sidewalk and go about 50 feet to a wide place along the sidewalk where blocks of stone are placed. This is close to the SW corner of the building. The Compass Rose in an integral part of the sidewalk.
From the parking area behind the YMCA (on the back side of the building, not facing the lake), walk to the NW corner of the building, turn along the sidewalk leading along the west side of the building and then turn left onto the sidewalk along the front glass wall. Shortly after walking along the side of the glass wall of the building you will walk into the Compass Rose.
If you park on the East of the YMCA, either in the back or the front, walk to the front parking lot and turn right so that you are facing toward the main door entrance. Turn slightly left and follow the sidewalk around the corner of the building's glass wall. Head west on the sidewalk beside the glass wall until you arrive at the Compass Rose.
The YMCA Townlake at 1100 W. Cesar Chavez Street, Austin, TX 78703 USA is in the SW quadrant of Austin. it is within sight of the Colorado River and adjacent to the Ladybird Lake - Lamar Beach Metro Park. The YMCA is a block or two west of North Lamar Boulevard.
