"Recognizing the need for a playground for people of all abilities, the City of Dublin created the Imagine Playground at Dublin Sports Grounds. The new playground, dedicated on March 6, 2021, is located at the Dublin Sports Grounds (6700 Dublin Boulevard). The playground was designed with the intent to provide a play structure and facilities that can be enjoyed by people with all kinds of special needs.
The $5.06-million project included the design and construction of an all-abilities playground, an all-inclusive picnic area, upgraded landscape, parking facilities, and pathways to improve accessibility and connectivity to other park features including the sports fields and a new ADA-compliant restroom facility.
Prior to the design of the playground, the City engaged with individuals and organizations who worked with people with special needs including Dublin Unified School District Special Education teachers, sports field user groups, Little League Challenger Baseball, and the School of Imagination. Pop-up booths were also set up at City of Dublin events in late 2018 to gain input from residents as to what they would like to see in the new all-abilities playground design. (
