Historia
A Terceira orde de San Francisco foi unha institución para segrares fundada por Francisco de Asís en 1221.
O templo ten a súa orixe na capela que a orde terciaria dos Franciscanos, decidiu construír en 1680, nun terreo anexo ao antigo convento de San Francisco. O edificio actual, cun interior barroco, comezouse en 1746, dirixido primeiro por Simón Rodríguez e logo por José Vidal.
Mentres que as ruínas do convento pasaron a propiedade militar en 1835, a capela non sufriu a desamortización por ser unha propiedade privada dos irmáns terciarios.
Nas dependencias da capela atópase o arquivo da orde, con referencias dende 1674 sobre a capela, a presenza militar e datos urbanísticos e históricos da cidade. O arquivo foi inventariado parcialmente a principios do século XXI.

Descrición
A fachada do edificio actual é do século XIX, obra do arquitecto municipal Juan de Ciórraga. Acaroada á fachada consérvase a torre do antigo convento de San Francisco, que non foi trasladada co resto do edificio ao Paseo das Pontes.
O acceso ao templo realízase por un amplo vestíbulo. A planta consta dunha única nave cunha sancristía acaroada ao lado da epístola. Nos flancos existen fornelas con retablos barrocos con marcos de pedra. O retablo maior, de estilo barroco, ocupa todo o testeiro. Débese a Domingo Antonio de Paredes e está datado en 1777, mais contén pezas doutro retablo anterior de 1690."
