Skt.

Skt. Hans spring is one of three holy wells found in Roskilde city center. It was a spring of healing effect close to the former Skt. Hans Church.
At Skt. Hans Holy Well, many pottery fragments have been found that originate from the drinking mugs that were used at the spring. You had to drink from a brand new mug, once you had drunk the water you had to break the mug so that other people were not infected by disease.
At the National Museum there are pottery fragments from the 14th century which originate from Skt. Hans Holy Well.
In 1832 the spring was mentioned as a well fenced with oak planks and that there was not much water.
In 1834, the spring was designed with a new spring outlet - a stone wall with a niche where the water runs out of a small spout. A small iron lattice was set up at the spring along with a wooden bench.
