This Mortar was captured from the Spanish during the Spanish-American War by the U.S.S. Dixie. It was later presented to The United Spanish War Veterans of Maryland in 1925. When it was placed at this location is unknown. However it is paired nicely with "The Hiker," a popular Spanish-American War memorial statue.
