The Alamo Quarry Market is a very large and popular shopping mall with restaurants, furniture stores. grocery stores, specialty stores, movie theaters, and more. This shopping mall land used to be the area known as Cementville and was owned and operated as the Alamo Cement Company where rock was quarried for use in making both Roman cement and Portland cement for construction all over Texas, and beyond. At the various entrances into this Alamo Quarry Market there are some old pieces of equipment that was used in the rock was processed into usable bags of cement. The rocks were dug up where the San Antonio Sunken Gardens and the Zoo are now. Before the 1920s, mules would pull specialized railroad cars filled with the rocks from where they were dug to this location, that was then called the Cementville processing plant where the rock was crushed, treated, mixed and bagged as cement at the Alamo Cement Company grounds, now the Alamo Quarry Market.

A sign on the parking lot side of the static display of a steam engine attached to a rock hauling car states the following information about the engine on permanent display:

"STEAM ENGINE
This engine was called a "saddle back steamer" because of the position and shape of the steam boiler. The boiler was fired by coal. From the early 1920's to the early 1930's it was used to haul the side loading and dumping cars to and from the quarry and crusher. Prior to that time mules were used to pull the cars. "
