Translated from the above noted text:

The Chevrotière mill stands on the territory of the former seigneury of Deschambault. François Chavigny acquired this seigneury in exchange for land on the Île d'Orléans belonging to his mother, Éléonore de Grandmaison, in 1674. The seigneur named the fief “La Chevrotière” in honor of his father-in-law, owner of a land of this name in France. Chavigny quickly undertook the construction of a first ordinary wooden mill. In 1766, the seigneury acquired a first stone mill. During the construction of a second stone mill in 1802 - the current mill - that of 1766 was converted into a stable.

The mill remained in the hands of the Chavigny family for more than a century, then Louis Gariépy acquired part of the shares in 1837. In 1922, a new miller, Arthur Goudreau, installed a generator and added a sawmill. The mill ceased its activities in 1955, upon his death.

The Moulin de La Chevrotière, built in 1802, is an imposing French-inspired stone building. In addition to permanent heritage exhibitions, there are exhibitions related to contemporary visual arts and fine crafts.
