The little figure has an intriguing story: In the 19th century, an infant was found on the ferry from Klakring. As none of the passengers would acknowledge the child, butcher Levinsohn took care of the boy, and later the boy was adopted by Levonsohn's daughter. The boy Willum Fønss grew up in Bogense and, after a few years abroad, was given the title of consul.

The consul was deeply grateful to Bogense, and on March 20, 1934, his daughter, Baroness Rosenkrantz, unveiled the small statue of Manneken, the history of which can be compared to that of the consul.

The true story is a bit more prosaic - Willum Fønss was the illegitimate son of butcher Levinsohn's daughter Charlotte Emilie Levin, and the infant came to Bogense, where he got a happy upbringing in Bogense with his grandmother and grandfather.

At the time, the little naked boy was not popular with everyone in town - and some would have liked to give him pants on every day.
Nowadays, however, Manneken in Bogense is very popular with locals as well as tourists.
