In Portugal there are two sorts of hiking trails, the PR and the GR. This means, Pequena Rota and Grande Rota, which translate as Short Route and Long Route. Creating and keeping these trails is usually a task of the municipalities and in this case LLE is the acronym of Loulé, a municipality in Algarve, the southernmost region of Portugal.
This hike is a bit over 9 km. It goes one mostly amidst nature, in the mountains known as Caldeirão. It goes through a couple of hamlets but most of its extension is walked on dirt roads. No intimate narrow trails though. Great views, specially from Malhão, a well known spot where there is a cafe, ideal for refreshments and some food.
It's a bit demanding, including a long climb towards Malhão. It's circular but advisable to start it through the hamlet of Pé do Coelho, returning there later on to pick up the vehicle.
