The Baptist Social Union of Western Massachusetts commissioned architect Tristam Richer to design a Baptist Church in Turner's Falls, MA to serve the needs of the lumbermen from Maine who settled in the area to build the Turner's Falls Dam. The Gothic Revival style building was complete in 1872 at a cost of $3,000. In 1897 the church was recessed 10' from the road and remodeled to give the church it's present appearance. (visit link)

The white clapboard covered building consists of a main block under a gable roof. A wing extends form the front of the north side of the building. The façade has three levels. The lower level has a double set of rectangular windows flanked by a pair of Gothic style windows with pediments with bracket supports. The second level has a Palladian window in the center flanked by a pair of slender Gothic style windows. The third level has a single Gothic style window. On the apex of the gable roof has a two tiered bell tower with a single louvered window on three sides. The tower is topped by a pyramidal steeple set on the center of a square, flared roof. The entrance reached by a flight of stairs or a zig-zag ramp on the north side of the façade.

The two story high wing on the north side has a gable roof and three windows asymmetrically placed. Gothic style windows are on the each level. The upper level has an additional small diamond shaped window. The north side beyond the wing is three bays wide with Gothic style windows and an auxiliary entrance at the last bay. The south side is four bays wide with Gothic style windows in each bay.
