The central park of San Lázaro has been freed from the scaffolding that covered the Anxo Caído statue, by Francisco Asorey. The work shines again after the cleaning carried out by the council within the framework of the "Cultura na rúa" plan that aims to recover the splendor of the artistic pieces that embellish the streets and squares of the city.
Through the cleaning concessionaire, Ecourense, a company specialized in the protection and conservation of art was hired , "with proven experience in this type of work," says the City Council, to complete a tour of 18 works. The works had a budget of 32,609 euros.
For the cleaning of these works, mixtures of respectful products with the materials of the sculptures were used, and using the appropriate machinery for the different sizes and compositions of each work, they explain from the consistory.
The work team paid special attention to stains caused by graffiti and vandalism, but it has also had to fight against mosses and lichens that grew out of control, damage caused by pollution and against rust, on metal parts. For the most part, the difficulty of the proceedings was "high" or "extreme", says the Council, due to the deterioration of the materials -granite, graphite and bronze-.
Since the end of June, when the cleaning of the statue of SanRosendo, by Xosé Cid, began, the work continued with others such as the Nexus VI, by Xosé Luís Carreira, on Pardo de Celda avenue, Father Feijoo by Eugenio Montes , the statue of Concepción Arenal, by Aniceto Mariñas, O Carrabouxo, Píramo e Tisbe, or that of Ramón Otero Pedrayo, in Praza do Correxidor.
