Skulpturen Hvalfisken er skænket af Albanifonden i forbindelse med Svendborgs 750 år jubilæum.
Skulpturen er udført af kunstneren Frantisek Balek.
Inspirationen til skulpturen stammer fra galionsfiguren på skibet Hvalfisken. Skibet sejlede mellem Danmark og Grønland men endte i Svendborg. Her blev den et del af havnebilledet. Skibet blev brugt som skoleskib, inden det blev ophugget i 1949.
Svendborg blev grundlagt i 1200-tallet og fejrede i 2003 sin 750-års fødselsdag. Svendborg er en havne- og søfartsby på det sydlige Fyn med 27.000 indbyggere. (2020) (

The whale fish was donated by the Albani Foundation in connection with Svendborg's 750th anniversary.
The sculpture is made by the artist Frantisek Balek.
The inspiration for the sculpture comes from the galleon figure on the ship whale fish. The ship sailed between Denmark and Greenland but ended up in Svendborg. Here it became part of the harbor picture. The ship was used as a school ship before it was scrapped in 1949.
Svendborg was founded in the 13th century and celebrated its 750th birthday in 2003. Svendborg is a port and shipping town on southern Funen with 27,000 inhabitants. (2020)
