This well-designed and popular skate park in Derby is located on the north side of Market Street, between Derby Ave. and Westview Drive. It has lots of obstacles including more stairs than I've ever seen in a skate park, covered areas for the summer, and several benches for to rest on.
The park used to have a building on site for offices, concession, and restrooms, but that was removed for several reasons:

The Derby Skate Park was a grass roots effort by Derby teens. While the popularity of skateboarding has grown, the number of places to ride a skateboard have decreased over the years. Many businesses, churches and schools don't allow skate boards on their property, forcing the teens to find other options.
The park features include stairs, rails, banks, an expansive 4-foot deep bowl along with numerous street skating elements. The park, which opened in September 2006, was designed by California Skate Parks, the same company that designed the City of Wichita's skate park.
The skate park is at the former site of the municipal pool, which closed when Rock River Rapids opened in 2004. Lighting and restrooms were in place, the City owned the land and there was ample parking.
Posted Derby Skate Park Rules:
1. Hours of operation are from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.Use before or after posted schedule will be considered trespassing under the Uniform Public Offense Code.
2. This skate park is not supervised and is a skate-at-your-own-risk facility designed for skateboarding, in-line skating and BMX biking only.
3. Know your abilities. Exercise common sense and general courtesy to others. Do not proceed down a ramp until it is clear of other skaters. Be aware of those around you and skate respectfully.
4. Do not place or utilize additional obstacles, including but not limited to ramps or jumps that are not specifically authorized by the Public Works Department. No modification to the skating surface is permitted.
5. No sound amplification devices without consent of the Public Works Department. No radios, boom boxes or portable stereos without headphones.
6. Motorized vehicles are prohibited.
7. The following items and activities are prohibited: Littering, Glass containers, Weapons, Drugs, Alcoholic beverages, use of tobacco products, profanity, disorderly conduct.
8. Graffiti in the Skate Park is prohibited. Keep the park surface clean as graffiti will close the park for paint removal.
9. Adverse weather conditions including snow, ice and wet surfaces can affect the skating surface. Use extreme caution in such circumstances. The use of salt or other granular deicing products is prohibited.
10. The City of Derby reserves the right to close the facility or require persons to leave the facility at any time. Persons found to be disobeying the park rules or vandalizing property may be banned from this facility.
11. No competitive or demonstration events are allowed without prior approval from the Public Works Department.
12. The City of Derby is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
13. Report problems or maintenance concerns to the Public Works Department at 788-0301.
