The Sideling Hill, Oregon Road CCC Camp was located between Routes 915 and US 30 ( Lincoln Highway ) near Wells Valley or Wells Tannery, Pennsylvania in Fulton County, Bordering Bedford County. Company 381 was here in 1933. In 1936 Company 5442 replaced 381. The Camp was Camp SP-52.
There were German Prisoners housed there during World War Two. The Commandant's House is still in use today by rangers. There is other evidence of the camp as well. The swimming hole, possibly two, is still there, as well as the food cave ( roof collapsed) and concrete floors of the barracks and showers and auto service ramp. A beautiful area to be sure, lots of fire walking trails thanks to the CCCs. But a word of caution I hear the area is loaded with rattlers and copperheads
