Allariz, es cierto, se encontraba en una vía secundaria romana que partiendo de la calzada de Aquae Originae derivaba en la mansio de Gemina hacia el N por Allariz, San Cibrao das Viñas y Ourense para alcanzar Lugo (Lucus Augusti). Evidentemente, tendría un puente romano, bien de madera o de fábrica que sufriría variados desperfectos y ruinas. Más adelante, también fue camino de visigodos y musulmanes. También era Camino de Santiago portugués.
