Springvand på torvet - Roskilde, Danmark - Fountains on Waymarking.com

Springvandet på Stændertorvet er dekoreret med symboler fra Roskildes Byvåben. Det er lavet i granit i 1895 af kunstneren V.J. Mørk-Hansen og givet til Roskilde by af O.H.Schmeltz. Disse oplysninger er indgraveret nederst i springvandet.
Da man opsatte springvandet i 1895, var man ikke klar over, at resterne af Skt. Laurentius kirke lå under pladsen. Da torvet skulle renoveres i 2015, valgte man derfor at flytte springvandet nogle meter mod øst for at bevare kirkeruinen. I den forbindelse blev springvandet også sat i stand af en lokal stenhugger.


The fountain on the square is decorated with symbols from Roskilde's City Arms. It is made of granite in 1895 by the artist V.J. Mørk-Hansen and given to Roskilde city by O.H.Schmeltz. This information is engraved on the bottom of the fountain.
When the fountain was set up in 1895, it was not clear that the remains of Skt. Laurentius Church was under the square. When the square was to be renovated in 2015, they therefore chose to move the fountain a few meters to the east to preserve the church ruin. In this connection, the fountain was also restored by a local stonemason.
