At this crossroads, at the end of World War II in 1945, troops of five armies gathered. The victorious American army stopped the fleeing German and Hungarian armies here on May 9, 1945 at 5 pm. Czechoslovak soldiers guarded the captured German soldiers here until May 13, 1945, and later this evening the victorious Red Army took over the entire camp. Here the Russian and American heroes shook hands.
