By 1945 it was clear that Nazi-Germany would lose the war. Early in the morning of 6 May American tanks from the 16th Armoured division set out for Pilsen, reaching the city around 08.00 hours.
The Allied Supreme Commander in Europe, General Dwight D. Eisenhower, agreed with his Soviet counterpart, General Aleksei I. Antonov, that US forces would stop on the line of the Czech cities of Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) – Plzen – Ceské Budejovice.
Horaždovice is a municipality in Plzen-South District in the Plzen Region of the Czech Republic. The town was liberated by troops of the 4th Armored Division and 90th Infantry Division. This event is commemorated by this plaque in the centre of the town.

The 4th Armored Division (
visit link) was an armored division of the United States Army that earned distinction while spearheading General Patton's Third Army in the European theater of World War II.
The 4th Armored Division, unlike most other U.S. armored divisions during World War II, did not officially adopt a nickname for the division during the war. However, their unofficial nickname "Name Enough" came into use postwar; the division commander having said, "Fourth Armored Division was name enough"; "They shall be known by their deeds alone." The 4th was named the "Breakthrough" division in 1954, but that name was eventually discontinued.
The 90th Infantry Division (
visit link) ("Tough 'Ombres") was a unit of the United States Army that served in World War I and World War II. Its lineage is carried on by the 90th Sustainment Brigade.
