[FR] L’objectif est de réaliser un bâtiment répondant aux exigences de modernisation du service postal.

La ville de Rodez est marquée de réalisations ponctuelles dans le style Art déco, souvent signée par André Boyer, l’architecte majeur de Rodez durant toute la première moitié du XXe siècle.

Après concertation avec l’architecte André Boyer, Leenhardt prévoit une construction en béton avec un revêtement de 20 cm de grès rouge de Cayssiac scellé par des agrafes de cuivre rouge fixées dans l’ossature en ciment armé, afin de s’harmoniser avec l’ancienne chapelle des Jésuites toute proche.

Pour parachever la décoration des ouvertures, les grilles des fenêtres et portes en fer forgé sont ornées de médaillons avec le monogramme « PTT », sigle officialisé en 1925.

Dès les premières ébauches, Leenhardt prévoit de décorer la façade d’une enseigne de marbre blanc gravée « télégraphe – poste – téléphone ». Marc Robert, sculpteur ruthénois réalise une maquette en août 1938, qui évoque des travaux d’Alfred Janniot pour l’exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs de 1925 et l’exposition Coloniale de 1931.

The city of Rodez is characterized here and there by structures built in the Art Deco style, often signed by André Boyer, the primary architect in Rodez during the first half of the 20th century.

After consultation with the architect André Boyer, Leenhardt planned a concrete construction with a 20 cm cladding of red Cayssiac sandstone affixed by red copper hooks attached to the reinforced concrete framework, which was in keeping with the former Jesuit chapel next door.

To finalize the decorations of the openings, the grillwork of the windows and doors in cast iron were festooned with medallions having the monogram « PTT », the acronym made official in 1925.

Beginning with the earliest drafts, Leenhardt planned to decorate the facade with an engraved white marble emblem « télégraphe – poste – téléphone ». Marc Robert, sculptor from Rodez, produced a model in August 1938, which evoked the work of Alfred Janniot for the International Exposition of Decorative Arts of 1925 and the Colonial exposition of 1931.
