The life-size bronze bust of a Czech painter and graphic artist, a pioneer and co-founder of the early phases of the abstract art movement and Orphic Cubism (Orphism) František (François) Kupka (1871 – 1957) was unveiled on June 25, 2017 on the main square (named after him, i.e. Kupka' square) of his hometown Opocno.
Kupka's bust of Opocno was donated by gallery owner Vladimir Lekes, director of Adolf Loos Apartment and Gallery and George Waldes, eldest son of Kupka's benefactor Henry Waldes. Author of the bust Jan B. K. Vlach lived and studied in France, where he met Kupka and he modeled for him. The cost of making the memorial was borne by the French town of Puteaux, which became Kupka's second home and where he died in 1957. In this town the identical memorial with the bust was unveiled in autumn 2017.

5363 Kupka

5363 Kupka is a main-belt asteroid. The asteroid belt is the region of the Solar System located roughly between the orbits of the planets Mars and Jupiter. It is occupied by numerous irregularly shaped bodies called asteroids or minor planets. The asteroid belt is also termed the main asteroid belt or main belt because there are other asteroids in the Solar System such as near-Earth asteroids and trojan asteroids. Maybe half the mass of the belt is contained in the four largest asteroids: 1 Ceres, 4 Vesta, 2 Pallas, and 10 Hygiea. These have mean diameters of more than 400 km, while Ceres, the asteroid belt's only identified dwarf planet, is about 950 km in diameter.

The asteroid was discovered on Oct. 19, 1979 by A. Mrkos at Klet Observatory, Czech Republic.
