It is located on the Groningen - Roodeschool railway line which was opened on 16 August 1893. The line to Roodeschool was laid from Sauwerd by the Groninger Lokaalspoorweg company.
The old station
During the construction of the line, a second class station of the GLS was built in Uithuizen. This original station was demolished in 1973 and, like almost everywhere in Groningen, was replaced by a bus shelter. There is now a real station dating back to 2000.
