In 1999, Canada Post issued its third installment of its scenic highways series of postage stamps. This series, twelve in all, featured a scenic drive in each province across the country. Representing Newfoundland is the Discovery Trail located on the Bonavista Peninsula. This scenic drive, composed of several different routes, takes you through the historic area of Cape Bonavista, believed to be the landing spot of John Cabot in 1497, and the scenic coastal area around Trinity Bay.

Besides the view of English Harbour, the stamp shows a sign for provincial route 230, one of the routes that comprise the Discovery Trail, a map of the Bonavista Peninsula and a whale tail. You have to venture a few miles off route 230 to visit English Harbour which is partially visible at the bottom of the map.
