Part of the count was done with a drone, in particular because of the confinement. “A new method that gives an accurate estimate of the number of nesting birds without disturbing them too much,” said the VivArmor member.

A sanctuary atmosphere
Delphine Even has been to the islet several times to count the birds. She describes the atmosphere on site ":" It feels like entering a sanctuary. It's a bit like entering their house. So you have to make yourself as small as possible so as not to disturb them and them. to flee. "During high tides, the tombolo can be crossed from the tip of Piégu to reach the islet, to go fishing on foot or observe the species.

You have to pay attention to the tidal coefficient before venturing there. Climbing is prohibited from April to August. Delphine Even advises "not to come too close, to be still, not to run and to observe them with respect."

Les espèces d’oiseaux nicheurs présentes sur l’îlot du Verdelet sont les goélands et les cormorans." Le plus représenté est le goéland argenté avec 390 couples comptabilisés. Huit couples de goélands marins, douze de goélands bruns. Pour les cormorans, on a compté 41 couples de grands cormorans et 87 couples de cormorans huppés »," explique Delphine Even.

Une partie du comptage a été faite au drone, notamment à cause du confinement. " Une nouvelle méthode qui donne une estimation précise du nombre d’oiseaux nicheurs sans trop les déranger »,"selon la membre de VivArmor.

Une ambiance de sanctuaire
Delphine Even est allée plusieurs fois sur l’îlot pour compter les oiseaux. Elle décrit l’ambiance sur place": « On a l’impression de rentrer dans un sanctuaire. C’est un peu comme si on entrait dans leur maison. Il faut donc se faire le plus petit possible pour ne pas les déranger et les faire fuir. " Pendant les grandes marées, le tombolo peut être traversé depuis la pointe de Piégu pour rejoindre l’îlot, pour y faire de la pêche à pied ou observer les espèces.

Il faut faire attention au coefficient de marée avant de s’y aventurer. L’escalade est interdite d’avril à août. Delphine Even conseille de " ne pas s’approcher trop près, rester tranquille, ne pas courir et de les observer avec respect. "
