Bâtie au XIIe siècle sur les flancs de la falaise, cette chapelle romane correspond vraisemblablement à l'église paroissiale primitive quand le village était encore accroché au versant du rocher. Elle faisait partie du complexe castral avec le château en contre-bas.
Après la grande peste de 1580 ou 1589, elle prit le nom de Saint Roch (Saint Roch étant le saint patron des pèlerins et des métiers de la médecine).
La date de 1659 inscrit sur la poutre de la toiture, correspondrait aux premiers grands travaux de réparation de la chapelle.
Après la Révolution française, elle est vendue et devient propriété privée. Des réparations, enduits et peintures sont faits au XIXe siècle. Cet à cette période, en 1835, que fut accrocher le grand tableau de Saint Roch.
Elle sera en service jusque dans les années 1960, puis abandonnée.
C'est en 1984, que la ville acquierera la chapelle qui sera gérée par l'association des Amis des Mées.
Etant fragile et risquant de s'écrouler, l'accès à la chapelle est condamnée jusqu'en 1987, où de gros travaux de réfection sont fait durant plusieurs chantiers de bénévoles

Built in the 12th century on the sides of the cliff, this Romanesque chapel probably corresponds to the primitive parish church when the village was still clinging to the slope of the rock. It was part of the castle complex with the castle below.
After the great plague of 1580 or 1589, it took the name of Saint Roch (Saint Roch being the patron saint of pilgrims and medical professions).
The date of 1659 inscribed on the beam of the roof, corresponds to the first major repair work on the chapel.
After the French Revolution, it was sold and became private property. Repairs, plasters and paintings are made in the 19th century. It was during this period, in 1835, that the large painting of Saint Roch was hung.
It will be in service until the 1960s, then abandoned.
It was in 1984 that the city acquired the chapel which will be managed by the Association des Amis des Mées.
Being fragile and at risk of collapsing, access to the chapel was blocked until 1987, when major repairs were carried out during several volunteer projects.
