The Marian Columns were built in Bohemia and Moravia often as commemorative columns, as a reminder of the tragic events, especially the wars and the plague epidemics.
The chronograms are located on the sandstone pedestal of Marian column. The Roman numerals of chronograms are larger than the other letters and are not color-coded from the rest of the text. Some letters are hard to read
The year 1716 and 1717 from the chronograms referring to erection of the column.

Sloup byl postaven v létech 1715-17 socharem Janem Sturmerem z nákladu meštanu Olomouce a Hranic, kterí se do Potštátu uchýlili v letech 1713–14 pred velkým morem, který v regionu rádil.
Sloup je tvoren ctverhranným zdobným soklem, na jedné strane s nikou s ležící postavou svetce a ctvericí soch svetcu stojících na každém z nároží podstavce. Z toho vyrustá válcový pilír zakoncený korintskou hlavicí, na níž spocívá socha Panny Marie. Kolem morového sloupu se nachází kamenná balustráda.
