The concept is simple: offer canned or boxed food items to the community at large, free for the taking. The philosophy is that those who can provide extra food items will make them available for others who may have a need for a bit more food during a hard time. The idea is to freely give so that others can freely take to meet a need. It is a "help thy neighbor" concept. A sign posted on the table reads: "Give What You Can. Take What You Need"

This Little Free Pantry is unconventional in that it is operated from a table top on the sidewalk in a neighborhood rather than from an enclosed box set on a pole by the street. It is also available for most of the day, but not 24/7. The fact that it is tended in this manner means the food is well cared for and well stocked because of the personal attention give to it by its volunteer caretakers. People in this community who are able to offer some food items to this food pantry are encouraged to give as they can. People in the community who could use some extra food are encouraged to come and take freely of the available food items.

At the time of posting this waymark, there were four containers of food items on the table. Several pudding cups were available. Cans of tuna fish, many cans of several kinds of beans, many plastic bags of rice, lentals and split peas were also offered selections.
