"Living in Prescott since 2000 has been a big change from the Texas that I love. Inspired by the beauty here in Prescott, the surrounding area and worldwide travels, I incorporate my own photographs and drawings into my work via printmaking, mark making and layering of imagery. This is a multi-step process involving many firings and the process itself is a joy to me. Glass is naturally a pieced medium. My goal is to transcend this design necessity and add fluidity, layering and complexity. The idea is to see the design, to look into it, to build depth and to see the overall imagery as a whole, not each piece. Enamel painting, screenprinting, solar plate relief printing, nature prints and monotype techniques have expanded my visual vocabulary allowing the work to grow and change." ~ AstralStudio

Artist info:
I am a kiln-formed glass artist. Glass to me is light, translucent color and texture. Opacity bounces color back to the viewer. Translucency allows depth and a glimpse of what is on the other side, a portal or window through or into the piece. The appearance of glass is ever-changing, day to night – sun to rain. Move a sculptural piece to a new location and the dance begins again between the double-sided imagery. My jewelry, 2D wall pieces and 3D sculptures are almost always inspired by elements found in the natural world in some way, pulling an observer into the feeling and meaning of a piece. ~ Cindi Shaffer, glass artist

"In the mid 1990’s I began working with glass and found it to be an enticing medium. My education in glass includes many master classes with well-known glass artists. My husband, Joe, works with steel, wood and stone to complete our glass multi-media pieces.

"Collaborative sculpture and individual glasswork are currently showing at multiple venues in downtown Prescott, Art2 Gallery at the Old Capitol Market on Gurley, ‘Tis Gallery, and Prescott Center for the Arts. Private showing at the 6th Street Studio are by appointment only. Feel free to contact me or view my website for additional information. ~ Joe Shaffer, steel & multi-media artist
