Sinds afgelopen vrijdag 27 juli 2016 is de gemeente Bodegraven-Reeuwijk een aantal waterlinieborden rijker. In het Rampjaar 1672 werd hier hevig gevochten tussen het Franse leger en de Republiek; daaronder hadden Zwammerdam, Bodegraven en Nieuwerbrug zwaar te lijden. In de kerk van Zwammerdam en Bodegraven zijn nog brandsporen zichtbaar en ook elders in de omgeving zijn restanten van de verwoesting te vinden. Het Hof te Waarder werd zelfs helemaal verwoest.
Ter herinnering aan het Rampjaar heeft de Stichting Groene hart de zgn. Rampjaarroute uitgezet, die het spoor volgt van de Franse legers: van Woerden via Nieuwkoop naar Zwammerdam, en via Bodegraven en Nieuwerbrug weer terug.
Toevallig was ik hier om het Hof van Waarder archeologisch te onderzoeken omdat er een waterleiding aangelegd werd. Op de locatie Korte Waarder 53 en 55 heeft een commanderij gestaan van de orde van de Johannieters. De commanderij werd gesticht in de 13e eeuw en is tweemaal verwoest, tijdens de tachtigjarige oorlog tussen Nederland en Spanje en door de Franse troepen in het rampjaar 1672. Ik heb een muur gevonden die zeker uit de Late Middeleeuwen dateert. Ik denk dat het de muur was van de kapel van de commanderij. Opvallend was dat ik tegen de muur twee uitbraaksporen vond. Dat komt overeen met dat de commanderij tweemaal verwoest is.

Since last Friday, July 27, 2016, the municipality of Bodegraven-Reeuwijk has gained a number of water line signs. In the Disaster Year of 1672 there was fierce fighting here between the French army and the Republic; Zwammerdam, Bodegraven and Nieuwerbrug suffered greatly from this. Fire marks are still visible in the church of Zwammerdam and Bodegraven and remnants of the destruction can also be found elsewhere in the area. The Hof te Waarder was even completely destroyed.
In memory of the Disaster Year, the Green Heart Foundation has set out the so-called Disaster Year Route, which follows the trail of the French armies: from Woerden via Nieuwkoop to Zwammerdam, and back again via Bodegraven and Nieuwerbrug.
Coincidentally, I was here to investigate the Hof van Waarder archaeologically because a water pipe was being laid. At the Kort Waarder 53 and 55 location there was a commandery of the order of the Johanniter knights. The commandery was founded in the 13th century and was destroyed twice, during the Eighty Years' War between the Netherlands and Spain and by the French troops in the disaster year of 1672. I have found a wall that certainly dates back to the Late Middle Ages. I think it was the wall of the chapel of the commandery. It was striking that I found two breakout levels next to the wall. That corresponds to the commandery being destroyed twice.
