Oldmeldrum is a small town in the north-east of Scotland, some 20 miles to the north-west of the city of Aberdeen. Its golf course is situated on a hill on the east side of the town, laid out over gently undulating parkland.
The course is around 6,000 yards off the back tees and is a par of 70, with two par fives on the front nine, and four short holes. The 1st and 18th share the same fairway, the 18th tee being at the highest point of the course. Thereafter the course spreads out to the east with one pond to be negotiated at the short 11th.
The courses emblem is The Groaner, also known as the Grenago Stone, a standing stone that sits to the left of the 14th fairway. Legend has it that the Earl of Buchan lay crying and groaning next to the stone after his defeat by King Robert at the Battle of Barra. The stone is thought to be the last survivor of a stone circle.
The club has a modern clubhouse, located up Kirkbrae to the right after entering the town from the south. A covered driving range is also available.
