Indian Territory Cemetery is located in the middle of the town of Checotah. Established in 1883, the headstones mostly date from the late 1800's to the first decade of the 20th Century.

Mr. Whaley's headstone is a tree stump with several of the traditional Woodmen of the World items engraved. The base is heavily engraved with calla lilies and at the top is a dove. The Woodmen motto was also engraved "Dum Tacet Clamet" (though silent, he speaks).

The dove is against the face of the tree stump. Its wings are spread wide and it is holding a olive branch in its beak.
