The Nohoch Mul pyramid is not the most famous construction of the Mayan culture, since the palm is taken by the Chichen-Itzá temple, but it can boast of being the highest in the Yucatan Peninsula , in Mexico. It is located in the complex of the Mayan ruins of Cobá. After climbing its 120 steps not suitable for those who suffer from vertigo, we rose 42 meters above the jungle.

The views from the top are impressive : a green blanket of vegetationexuberantexuberant as far as the eye can see, a nearby lake and the steep stairs that we will now have to descend. A rope in the center of the "walkable" face of this pyramid temple will help the daring climbers .

If you travel to the Riviera Maya, I absolutely recommend this visit to Cobá, where this castle stands out as one of the outstanding constructions. The complex is located between Tulum and Chichen-Itzá, 41 kilometers from Tulum , taking a detour on the road that connects them.

It is very easy to get there on your own by rented car, because public transport or the vans that run along the Riviera no longer reach here. Although there are also many agencies in Playa del Carmen that organize excursions to Cobá, which is the option that I chose.
The Temple-pyramid has 7 levels with rounded corners with an architectural style close to that of Chichén Itzá and Uxmal. You have to think twice before going up if it is that suffocating and humid heat that the Yucatan climate tends to give away, so it is best to go first or last hour of the day, or in any case, if we are not used to exercise, go resting enough to avoid fainting ...

Cobá was an important Mayan ceremonial center belonging to the Classic and Postclassic periods, and it is worth visiting. Since the ascent to the Chichén-Itzá castle or pyramid is no longer allowed, you must take advantage of this other place, an enclave of the Mayan civilization, to live that experience!
