The King Canute statue is located in the grounds of Knutsford Town Council offices.

The sculpture was commissioned by the Cheshire Gardens Trust for their Silver Medal winning show garden at the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park 2012.
It was designed by Christine Wilcox-Baker and represents King Canute, from whom the town derives its name.

The Sculpture was stored at Tatton Park for two years, then in September 2014, King Canute was moved over to Knutsford Town Council Offices. Planting was incorporated into the scheme, this was mulched with pea gravel and crushed shells used to highlight the feature.

The King Canute sculpture was moved from Tatton Park and placed in front of the town council offices on Toft Road opposite the town’s Curzon cinema.
It was handed over free of charge but cost almost £4,000 to install it in the grounds of the town council offices.

A plaque placed next to the sculpture gives the following information;
King Canute

This sculpture was designed by Christine Wilcox-Baker
for the Cheshire Gardens Trust show garden at RHS Tatton 2012.

The design was inspired by the logo of Caldwell Nursery, which traded in Knutsford for over 200 years until 1991.Their logo featured King Canute (or Knut) who is said to have forded the river here and given his name to it as Knut's Ford - hence Knutsford.

The sculpture was donated to the Town Council in 2014.

Please enjoy looking at the sculpture but do not touch; Knutsford Town Council can accept no liability for injury caused by inappropriate behaviour.
