Not long ago, this was a silver hydrant with an orange cap, and it had probably been this way since the 1990s. In 2019, Create Ardmore and the Ardmore Fire Department worked together on a beautification effort in which fire hydrants in the downtown Cultural Arts District -- a comparatively small number compared to the over 1600 hydrants that the Ardmore FD has to maintain throughout the area! -- would be given the glamour treatment. As the Ardmore FD requires that the hydrants have a specific color cap -- red, orange, green or blue -- to indicate how much water pressure each tank has behind it, they did the priming work, leaving local volunteers to use their imaginations and minimal guidelines in the effort.

A basketball court in varying shades of orange, tan, and brown dominates most of the hydrant, and the lower standpipe is dark orange/copper. "Hickory" is in white in the circle at half-court, and a basketball is going into the net. The hoop and some of the net are on the bonnet, while some of the net continues onto the blue field below. The orange cap has been "kind of" retained, in that the back half is solid orange, and those dots down each side probably represent spectators.
