Dit monument herdenkt de Tweede Wereldoorlog en de herwonnen vrijheid. Het staat bij het jachthuis 'The Jolly Duck' waar op zondag 29 april 1945 een gevecht was tussen het Verzet en de Duitsers. Tijdens de bezettingsjaren hebben verschillende onderduikers zich verscholen gehouden in het Jachthuis. Op zondag 29 april 1945 is het jachthuis overvallen door 24 man van de Duitse Wehrmacht. Daarbij zijn de Amerikaanse piloot John E. McCormick en de Zoetermeerse verzetsman Jacob van Rij gesneuveld. Beiden liggen begraven op de Oude Begraafplaats in Zoetermeer.
Het beeld is een abstracte sculptuur, opgebouwd uit twee panelen. Het eerste paneel is een bronzen reliëf van een mensfiguur in een halve cirkel, met op de achtergrond een aantal gezichten. Het andere paneel is een spiegel waarin dit reliëf weerspiegeld wordt. Het geheel is geplaatst op een voetstuk, waarop twee bronzen plaquettes zijn aangebracht.
Het beeld is van ontwerper Corry Ammerlaan en is ter gelegenheid van de 50-jaar herdenking op 21 april 1995 onthuld.
Op het beeld is een plaquette te vinden met de tekst: "Voor altijd herinneren wij ons diegenen die zich hebben ingezet voor onze vrijheid - 21 April 1995"

This memorial commemorates the Second World War and the regained freedom. It stands at the hunting lodge 'The Jolly Duck' where on Sunday April 29, 1945 there was a fight between the Resistance and the Germans. During the occupation years, several people in hiding hid in the Jachthuis. On Sunday, April 29, 1945, the hunting lodge was raided by 24 men of the German Wehrmacht. The American pilot John E. McCormick and the Zoetermeer resistance fighter Jacob van Rij were killed. Both are buried in the Old Cemetery in Zoetermeer.
The image is an abstract sculpture, made up of two panels. The first panel is a bronze relief of a human figure in a semicircle, with a number of faces in the background. The other panel is a mirror in which this relief is reflected. The whole is placed on a pedestal on which two bronze plaques have been placed.
The statue is by designer Corry Ammerlaan and was unveiled on the occasion of the 50-year commemoration on April 21, 1995.
On the statue is a plaque with the text: "Forever we remember those who worked for our freedom - April 21, 1995"
