Not long ago, this was an all red hydrant. In 2019, Create Ardmore and the Ardmore Fire Department worked together on a beautification effort in which fire hydrants in the downtown Cultural Arts District -- a comparatively small number compared to the over 1600 hydrants that the Ardmore FD has to maintain throughout the area! -- would be given the glamour treatment. As the Ardmore FD requires that the hydrants have a specific color cap -- red, orange, green or blue -- to indicate how much water pressure each tank has behind it, they did the priming work, leaving local volunteers to use their imaginations and minimal guidelines in the effort.

Today, the hydrant has a green cap, and is primarily pink like a piggy bank. It looks like the artist may have run out of pink paint for the lower standpipe, which remains black in some areas, although they may have run into that fixture in the back and decided to just stay clear of it. The pig's black ears stick up on the cap, and the eyelashes give the pig a feminine appearance. The side outlet caps are black, while the operating nut on the front cap is the pig's nose. There's a black dollar sign underneath, and on the back, a black slot for coins right above the pig's white, curled tail.
