The "Rise Above" mural is painted on a the front of a former garage that has its vehicle entrance bricked over. It now used as a utility building with access through a side door. The mural was sponsored by the South Hadley Youth Commission. The message is to rise above the influence the negative pressure of life, especially media and drugs.
The central images depicts a young man and a woman. The woman is offering third woman a helping hand while the young man offers moral support. In the background is a tree and a river. A laughing gull is flying in the upper right corner.
Under the gabled roof is the message:
The only person that can pull be down is myself, and I'm not going to let myself pull me down anymore.
