EN In the past, long before freezers and refrigerators, ice was collected in winter to keep it in the basement and use it in summer.

This dome is the submerged part of the cooler covering the tank dug in the basement.

Externally, only an aedicule covered with earth as thermal insulation is visible. The interior is a circular tank 8 meters deep dug in the basement masonry and carefully smoothed. Its access port faces north to limit the entry of hot air during ice mining. Ice was produced naturally in winter and stored until the hot season.
These coolers were built near water points and a flat, bowl-like terrain called a frost pool. During the freezing period, the basin was flooded, the water froze and the collected ice was stacked in the tank in successive layers separated by straw.

Accessible at any time, you can only go down and visit the cold part during Heritage Day.
