This column is located in the boulevard on Liberty Street between North Park and South Park Avenues in Erie, Pennsylvania. The column was erected as a monument to Captain Charles Vernon Gridley, a naval officer who served in the American Civil War and Spanish-American War, and who lived in Erie for a time. The park on either side of the street where the column is located, and the nearby school, are also named for Gridley. The column has an Ionic capital and a bronze plaque on its base honoring Gridley.
