After being vandalized, the Tiny Texas Jails website (see below) has returned to us, and the work upon which it's based is William E. Moore's "The Texas Calaboose and Other Forgotten Jails". It features nice color photographs and brief histories of many of Texas's surviving calabooses. This is at least the second calaboose that Leonard had, commissioned in 1919 to replace a wooden jail that was sold off. Speculation is that this replacement cost about $300, and it is made of concrete, occupying 117 square feet with a domed roof. The main cell has three barred windows, one on the side wall and the others on the front and back walls. Wood awnings covered with tin protect the door and the front and side windows, and Moore notes that these are replacements. The walls are nine inches thick, and the main cell is separated from the other by bars. In 1930 -- note the date by "Calaboose" outside -- minor repairs were made and a toilet was installed in the entry room. The calaboose is locked, but it's not difficult to poke a camera through the bars of the entrance for a few photos.
