Auf halber Strecke zwischen Kemmerode und Machtlos fanden sie den Findling mit dem eingehauenen Hersfeld-Wappen unversehrt wieder. Der ungewöhnliche Name des Steins rührt von einer Sage her: Zwei Riesen, einer auf dem Eisenberg, der andere auf dem Herzberg ansässig, waren in Streit geraten und bewarfen sich mit Steinen – sie verfehlten aber ihr Ziel. Und so liegt der Findling, der so genannte Pöbelstein, noch heute relativ weit weg vom Herzberg im Wald. Die Spuren der Riesenkrallen sind in Form von tiefen Furchen noch heute zu sehen.
