Toenmalig Koningin Beatrix bereikte op 31 januari 1988 de leeftijd van 50 jaar. Ter gelegenheid van deze feestelijke gebeurtenis werden overal in Nederland zogenaamde "Beatrix-bomen" geplant.
Voorzitter van de Tweede Kamer Dick Dolman plantte in Schoonhoven de eerste boom en in de weken die volgden werden op initiatief van Oranje-verenigingen ook elders tientallen bomen aan de aarde toevertrouwd.
Zo ook in Nieuwerbrug, waar een boom werd geplant op de hoek van de Hoge Rijndijk en de Graaf Florisweg. Rondom de boom is een ijzeren hek geplaatst. Op de plaquette staat de tekst (zonder hoofdletters): "beatrixboom. hare majesteit de koningin. 31 januari 1988. 50 jaar."

Queen Beatrix at the time reached the age of 50 on January 31, 1988. On the occasion of this festive event, so-called "Beatrix trees" were planted all over the Netherlands.
President of the House of Representatives Dick Dolman planted the first tree in Schoonhoven and in the weeks that followed dozens of trees were entrusted to the earth elsewhere on the initiative of Orange associations.
This is also the case in Nieuwerbrug, where a tree was planted on the corner of the Hoge Rijndijk and the Graaf Florisweg. An iron fence has been placed around the tree. The plaque has the text (without capitals): "beatrixboom. Her majesty the queen. January 31st 1988. 50 years."
