Saint Joseph church, on the corner of West 24th and Sassafras Streets in Erie, PA, was founded in 1867 by German residents in Erie. Construction on the church building was begun in 1882. The architect was Patrick Keely, who also designed the nearby Saint Peter Cathedral in Erie. Over the years, the church has undergone some renovations, but much of the original character of the building remains, including the ornately hand-carved wood high altar. Today St. Joseph's is still a very active parish and is known for its perpetual adoration chapel where anyone can pray before the Blessed Sacrament day or night.
