"Mention on the same site of three successive buildings: the first, a large complex of the 4th century with courtyard surrounded by a portico, the second, a Merovingian church built between the 5th and the 7th century and the third, a pre-Romanesque cathedral of the 9th century.
Its plan with two opposite apses (one to the east, the other to the west) is unique in Brittany. It is found, in the Carolingian period, at the cathedral of Cologne and that of Besançon.
In the 12th century (1145), the seat of the bishopric was transferred to Saint-Malo, then in the 13th century (around 1255), the cathedral of Alet was razed at the same time as the city walls.
The eastern apse will later be converted into a chapel dedicated to St. Peter, a date from 1675 was still visible at the beginning of the century.
In 1868, (dated by historical works) the chapel is restored and blessed. Excavations carried out from 1972 to 1978 by the regional center of archeology of Alet made it possible to discover the plans of the successive buildings. Today the site presents a consolidation of the foundations of the pre-Romanesque cathedral. "

Les fouilles menées de 1972 à 1978 par le centre régional d'archéologie d'Alet ont permis de découvrir les plans des édifices successifs. Aujourd’hui le site présente une consolidation des fondations de la cathédrale préromane. "
