From Find A Grave: US Air Force General. A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he rose in rank to become the Commander of the 7th Air Force in the Pacific Theater. After graduating from St. Francis Preparatory School in Brooklyn, New York, he and attended St. Francis College there. In March 1940 he entered military service as an aviation cadet and in November of that year he completed flight training at Kelly Field (now Kelly Air Reserve Base, a part of Joint Base San Antonio), Texas, and was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the Army Air Corps Reserve and received his pilot wings. He remained at Kelly as a flight instructor and the following June he was assigned as assistant aviation cadet supervisor of the Primary Flying School at Cuero, Texas, and in 1943 he became its commander. In January 1944 he attended the Command and General Staff School at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and upon graduation in March 1944 returned to the Primary Flying School as commander. In September 1944 he became the operations and training staff officer for the 13th Air Force in the Southwest Pacific Theater of Operations. In January 1946, following the end of World War II, he was assigned to Headquarters US Army Air Forces in Washington DC to serve as a member of the Operations Staff. The following July he was assigned to Randolph Field (now Randolph Air Force Base, a part of Joint Base San Antonio), Texas for duty as assistant director and then commander of the Primary Pilot Training School. In September 1947 he entered the Air Command and Staff School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, and after graduation in June 1948, he was assigned as air inspector at the Air Training Command in Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana. The following year he returned to Texas, at Goodfellow Air Force Base (now closed), as commander of the 3545th Pilot Training Group, followed by an assignment to Tokyo, Japan as deputy for operations, Far East Air Materiel Command. During the Korean War in April 1951, he was assigned to Korea as commander of the famed "Mosquito Group," the 6147th Tactical Control Group, which under his command underwent equipment improvement and tactical advances important in the development of tactical air control that was later used during the Vietnam War. In January 1952 he returned to the US and became the commander of Pope Air Force Base, North Carolina until December, when he entered the Advanced Instrument Flying School at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia and after graduation in March 1953, he was reassigned to Pope Air Force Base as Inspector General for the 9th Air Force. From August 1953 until August 1959 he served with fighter units at Alexandria (now England) Air Force Base (now closed), Louisiana where he became deputy commander, 366th Fighter Bomber Wing, and at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina as deputy commander, 83d Fighter Wing and then commander of the 4th Tactical Fighter Wing. In August 1959 he entered the National War College at Fort McNair in Washington DC and after graduation in July 1960 he was assigned to the 17th Air Force in Germany as deputy chief of staff, operations. In July 1963 he returned to Washington DC and was assigned to Headquarters US Air Force as deputy director of operational requirements, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Programs and Requirements, and in August 1964 became Assistant for Logistics Planning, Deputy Chief of Staff, Systems and Logistics. In August 1967 at the rank of colonel he returned to Japan as Vice Commander of the 5th Air Force and a year later he returned to the US as Commander of Tactical Air Command's 9th Air Force at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina. In October 1969 he returned to Washington DC where he became the Director for Logistics of the Joint Staff, Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
