Mississippi Valley Overlook - near Guttenberg, Iowa - Scenic Roadside Look-Outs on Waymarking.com

This small scenic pullout along US HWY 52. The overlook is on a wooded bluff above the Mississippi River. Excellent views of the river can be had from the car. The scenic overlook has no facilities either for comfort or picnicking.



The front of the Official Iowa State Marker discusses both the historical and geological significance of the Overlook, and how the river and valley below was the outflow of melting glaciers.



The reverse of the Official Iowa State Marker continues the discussion of the geologic importance of the area including the iron ore the area is known for. Also, how the weathering of the limestone provides habitat for plants found much further north.
