In the early 1850’s Grandpa Peter Kalmes started the bar business in the Luxembourg village of St. Donatus, Iowa. The original location was across the street in the pink stucco house just kitty-corner from us now.

My Commentary:
This zinc, three-foot obelisk topped by a crucifix, is located towards the north and west portion of the cemetery. It rests on a concrete base. The family name - Kalmes - appears on the front and reverse near the base. Text on the front reads:

The right side has a girl pointing to heaven with the base text reading:
Jesus! Maria!
