My Commentary:
Nelson Dewey was the first Governor of the State of Wisconsin and a native son of Lancaster. His final resting place is less than a mile from this location. Grant County thought enough of him and this statue to include it on the County Flag. The statue is approximately 4 foot tall and the plinth 6 foot tall. The statue and plinth are in good repair, although the statue and the plinth could use a good cleaning. The landscaping, including the hedging, appear to be kept in good maintenance.

STATUE OF NELSON DEWEY, the State's first Governor (1848- 1852), stand in the square. Dewey (see below) is buried in the local Episcopalian cemetery.
